Press release issued today (14 sept):
DENVER – Today Karen Morrissey, a long-time political and fair-elections activist, announces her candidacy for the Denver Election Commission. From her website:
“Over the past dozen years or so, I have been taking an increasingly active role in Colorado’s voting process and doing my part to ensure elections have been conducted fairly.
I have been an Election Judge for over a decade; been a plaintiff in a lawsuit over ballot specifics; and tesified at the legislature for fair election practices.
In recent years, federal and state laws have made the running of elections more complex than ever. Denver has been forced by these laws to change to Vote Centers and buy new voting machines.
We need our Election Commissioners to be fully versed in all aspects of election law, but also keep in mind the needs of the voters.
My goal as one of your three Election Commissioners will be to ensure the integrity and security of Denver elections and to build the confidence of our voters.”
While announcing the candidacy today, campaign manager Dan Willis clarifies that the election for this office is not until May 2007, so much of the “public campaigning” will not take place until after this November’s general election.
